35 Gap Rd in Transition

This series is a relatively straight forward documentation of an abandoned set of buildings that occupy a corner near the centre of Alice Springs. I have been interested in the abandoned structures around this town for some time as there seems to be an overwhelming opinion that Alice Springs has a very reel shortage of accommodation.

In this series a feeling of solitude prevails as well as the sense of past occupants long moved on still waiting to see what the location is become. Memories, experiences and a sense of home still hang in the air while abandonment and waste visually dominate the scenes.

This is my first dedicated series of photographs shot with the Mamiya RB 67 and a now discontinued film stock of Kodak Portra 400nc. I chose to use this film stock as it produces very relaxing unsaturated photographs with a low level of contrast.
