So I've been waiting and waiting for the new Canon 5D MKII to arrive here in Australia and it has but not at the store where I shop. Its been retailing for $4000 + on a lot of websites all over Australia but the store I'm liking has it for around $3800 so I guess that everyone else is on the case as well.
The 21.1 megapixel full frame sensor is what I'm after and it increased high ISO performance are the main features that I'm after. The other big feature is that it shoots full HD video which will get me back into video work and get me filming again. My last video camera met with an untimely end when I ran over it last November on my second training tour.
I'm also up in the air about what lens to get with it, the kit lens, the 24-105 f/4L IS UMS is pretty nice I had the chance to use one just last week while on tour and I found it to be solid and sharp. But the best thing about it was the macro function which I would use a lot for images of flowers, plants and insects something that I've been missing out on for a while now. The other choice that I'm looking at is the 24-70 f/2.8L USM which from all accounts has better build quality and more clarity to the images but no IS and no Macro. The 24-70 would fit into my collection perfectly as I have a 17-40 f/4L USM and a 70-200 f/2.8L IS USM plus the wider aperture would allow me to use more depth of field techniques.
The decision about the lens is proving to be the only question about the purchase...
I was told today that it will be likely to arrive for sale early January which is a bit of a bummer because I want it now now now now damn it. I suppose that waiting a bit more wont hurt too much but I'm just getting impatient all up and over.
