West MacDonnell Sunset

This was a favourite location of mine for a while as its close to town but I haven't been there for a long time. What I'm thinking of today is location and timing, especially on how the different times of year produce different alignments of light along large features like the range here. This shot was taken in May almost in the middle of winter so the range was catching ample amounts of direct light. However at this time of the year the middle of summer the light is actually setting so that the range here is only partially lit.

These changes in lighting direction are one advantage of visiting the locations so many times in a single year. Its also a great way of seeing the subtle differences of the same location and using it to your photographic advantage to create something new again and again.
