Landscape at f/1.4

Far from the classic method for shooting landscapes this series sets out to explore what landscape means at the widest aperture of my 50mm lens. Traditionally landscape photographs are made with apertures in the f/11 to f/22 range to give a large depth of field. This depth of field gives great sharpness to near and far objects in the frame.

Here I am posing the question, does a successful rendition of a landscape really require this large range of focus? And, can one element be selected to convey a more intimate viewing experience rather than it being lost amongst the full field of view? I've chosen to select either objects or spaces within the frame to emphasise rather than the entire field of view in the aim of helping the viewer to move into the image and get a different sensation of space.
